Game Basics 1

House of Night

The player's base. From here you can play in online matches or the tutorial where you can learn the game's basic controls and rules.

Dusk Battle

A battle for Virtue between eight Bloodsworn, made up of four phases. The Bloodsworn with the most Virtue compete for overall victory in the final phase.

Selecting Starting Area

During the intermission prior to the phase, each player can select a starting area. You start the phase from a random location in the selected area. If too many players gather in the same area, randomly selected players will be relocated to another area.

Exploration and Strengthening

In Dusk Battles, it is crucial that you strengthen your character. You can gain an advantage in battle by defeating enemies to level up and searching the Lands of Dusk for items. You can also use the map to get information that will help you in exploration, such as the characteristics of that area.

Fighting Enemies

Enemies on the field will attack players. Press R or ZR to perform a melee attack, or ZL to perform a ranged attack. You can deploy your shield with L to block enemy attacks.

Experience and Levels

Earn experience by defeating enemies. You level up by earning a certain amount of experience, increasing your HP and attack power.

Death and Revival

Even if defeated, you can revive and continue in the match. Select a revival point from the map. If you have fewer than two Goldblood Stake uses when you die, they will be replenished so you have two remaining.

Clock

The clock at the top right of the screen indicates the progress of the phase. When the clock's hand reaches the shining dot, a ritual site will appear on the map; when it reaches the red dot, the phase ends.

Ritual Sites

Ritual sites appear in the second and third phases. You can earn Virtue at the ritual sites by defeating other players and swearing to the blood pledge pillar. Fighting at the ritual site is extremely important for surviving the culling.

If you leave a ritual site after entering it, you will lose HP.

Virtue

Virtue can be acquired in various ways, and the amount you can gain increases as the phases progress.
There are also several types of Virtue. Those with low Virtue in the second and third phases are culled and eliminated from the Dusk Battle, so acquire as much Virtue as possible.

Types of Virtue
  1. Sword Virtue

Earned by defeating other players at a ritual site. You will not earn it by defeating Bloodsworn outside of a ritual site.

  2. Pledge Virtue

Earned by swearing to the blood pledge pillars that exist at ritual sites. It will be lost if the pledge is overwritten by another player.

  3. Repulsion Virtue

Earned by defeating great foes. You can earn even more Virtue by defeating stronger enemies called trespassers.

  4. Flame Virtue

Earned by lighting a flame in the skulls of corpses sitting in chairs. There are large lantern corpses that grant even more Virtue, but only the first person to light them can do so.

  5. Commendation Virtue
    1. Earned by the players with the highest Bloodfang Commendation and Collector Commendation at the end of every phase—two players each. Rankings are calculated at set intervals during the phases, with players gaining and losing Virtue according to their rankings.

    2. Bloodfang Commendation

Earned each time you defeat an enemy.

      Collector Commendation

Earned by collecting items. Rare or new items will count towards this commendation more.

  6. Other Virtue

Earned through finishing Sigil goals or other events.

If players earn the same amount of Virtue, the player who has acquired more of the higher-value Virtue will take the higher rank. In order of value: Sword Virtue; Pledge Virtue; Repulsion Virtue; Flame Virtue; Commendation Virtue; other Virtue.

Redstones and Goldstones

Within ritual sites are rock plinths, from which you can collect either a redstone or a goldstone. Holding these will increase the amount of Virtue you earn, but you cannot hold both a redstone and goldstone at the same time.

Redstone: Increases the amount of "Sword Virtue" earned by defeating enemies at ritual sites.
Goldstone: Increases the amount of "Pledge Virtue" earned by swearing to blood pledge pillars at ritual sites.

Moon Blood Bestowal

Moon Blood Bestowal is the final phase, during which players fight until only one remains. Alliances are no longer in effect. You can revive after one defeat, but you'll lose when defeated a second time. HP is increased according to the amount of Virtue you acquired by the final phase.
